Praja Palana experiences ongoing heavy rush on second day

The Praja Palana programme in Hyderabad is experiencing a high number of people visiting the centers on its second day. However, people are facing the same problems as they did on the first day, such as the unavailability of application forms. Despite complaints and confusion on the first day, officials have not addressed these issues.

At some centers, officials distributed forms for free but required people to provide proof of local residence. This led to photocopy centers profiting from selling application forms. Additionally, many people were unaware that documents like gas agency bills needed to be included with their applications. Some women from marginalized communities also did not have bank accounts.

One resident, Srinivas, shared his experience of being directed to a center in Bowenpally even though he lives in Dairy Farm. This caused confusion and inconvenience for him. People are facing many difficulties in applying for the Abhaya Hastham (6 guarantees scheme) launched by the Congress government in Telangana. The government had initially mentioned that volunteers would collect applications door-to-door, but this has not been happening in reality. Instead, the public is required to apply at the nearest ward stations, which has resulted in long queues.

Syed Bilal, Vice President of the Human Rights Forum in Hyderabad, expressed concern about the volume of applications and the limited time frame for submission. He suggested that the State government should extend the deadline beyond January 6 to make it easier for people to apply.
