Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut may face disqualification from the Rajya Sabha after a resolution for breach of privilege was carried against him on Saturday and sent to the chairman. Raut had referred to members of the Maharashtra state assembly as the “chor mandal,” which led to objections from the government and a privilege motion being brought against him for insulting elected officials and the House. The privilege committee recommended sanctions against Raut, and the breach of privilege motion was passed against him after he failed to provide adequate clarifications. The motion has been referred to the Rajya Sabha chairman for further action since Raut is a member of that body.

Raut has stated that this is a conspiracy against him, similar to what Rahul Gandhi is facing. Gandhi is also facing disqualification and has received support from several opposition party leaders, such as Arvind Kejrival and Mamata Banerjee. Gandhi stressed the need for parties to work together to succeed and expressed gratitude for their support in the wake of his conviction in a defamation case and expulsion from the Lok Sabha. He also stated that the action against him will benefit the parties, as it has given them a “big weapon.”
