Good news for the people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as rain is expected in the coming days. The Southwest monsoon is on its way and is likely to reach the Andaman Islands within four days. This will bring relief from the hot summer weather.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area will bring rain and thunder to some places in Andhra Pradesh in four days. IMD officials predict rain in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh starting from tonight or early Wednesday morning, lasting until May 21.
In Telangana, areas like Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Jagityala, Siricilla, Peddapalli, Bhuvanagiri, Medak, and Kamareddy can expect heavy rains with strong winds. In Andhra Pradesh, gusty winds and thundershowers are expected in districts like Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitaramaraj, Parvathipuram Manyam, Prakasam, and Anakapalli.
The Southwest monsoon is expected to reach the South Andaman Sea, parts of the Southeast Bay of Bengal, and the Nicobar Islands around May 19, earlier than its usual onset date of May 22. According to IMD’s long-range forecast released in April, monsoon rainfall across the country from June to September is predicted to be ‘above normal’ at 106 percent of the long period average (LPA).
An updated forecast with more details is expected at the end of May, including probabilistic forecasts for seasonal rainfall across different regions of India. The IMD will also announce the probable onset date of the monsoon over Kerala around the same time.
