Police in Hyderabad have issued a warning to citizens about new methods being used by cyber criminals to commit fraud. Specifically, cyber attacks are targeting individuals who have applied for government-administered programs. These criminals are making fake phone calls to applicants, claiming that their applications for benefits such as housing and gas subsidies have been approved. They then ask the victims to share the One Time Password (OTP) received on their phones, which allows the criminals to access their bank accounts and steal money.
The police have advised people not to share their OTPs with anyone, as doing so could result in the loss of funds from their accounts. It is important to note that the state government has received a large number of applications for various programs aimed at fulfilling election promises. These applications were submitted during a six-day public governance program held across the state, and a total of 1.25 crore applications have been received.
Despite the positive response to these programs, cyber criminals are now targeting applicants in an attempt to fraudulently withdraw money from their bank accounts. The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and not fall victim to these scams. By staying cautious and not sharing personal information or OTPs, individuals can help protect themselves from cyber fraud.
