BRS Legislators Protest at Telangana Assembly Over Alleged Congress-Adani Ties
In Hyderabad, a dramatic protest unfolded at the Telangana Assembly gates on Monday as police detained several Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs and MLCs. The legislators were staging a unique demonstration against what they alleged was an alliance between Congress leader Revanth Reddy and industrialist Gautam Adani.
The protest began with BRS leaders marching from Gun Park to the Assembly, wearing T-shirts with slogans like “Adani Revanth Bhai Bhai.” They chanted phrases such as “Delhi me Adani se kusti, gali me dosti” (wrestling with Adani in Delhi, friendship in the streets), accusing Congress of “double standards” in its stance toward Adani.
At the Assembly gates, police blocked the entry of the BRS legislators, resulting in a tense standoff. Korutla MLA Dr. Sanjay and other leaders were detained when they tried to force their way inside. The situation became chaotic, with the lawmakers accusing the police of suppressing their democratic right to protest.
Adding to the tension, BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a sharp verbal attack on Congress state president Revanth Reddy. Speaking to the media, KTR sarcastically said, “Despite repeated warnings, Revanth doesn’t listen. So, we decided to wear these T-shirts and convey our protest directly in the Assembly.”
The protest took on a cultural tone as BRS leaders raised slogans emphasizing Telangana’s identity. They shouted, “Telangana Thalli is ours, Congress Thalli is yours,” underscoring their connection to the state’s ethos and symbols like the Bathukamma festival. The leaders accused Congress of being disconnected from Telangana’s cultural heritage.
The BRS also accused Congress of hypocrisy, alleging that while the party criticizes Adani at the national level, its state leaders maintain covert ties with him. Mocking Revanth Reddy, KTR remarked, “He asked us to wear these T-shirts and protest inside the Assembly,” highlighting the irony of the situation.
As the police continued to block entry to the Assembly, tensions escalated. BRS legislators criticized the authorities for barring them from entering the House, calling it an undemocratic move. They vowed to keep protesting against what they described as Congress and BJP’s attempts to undermine Telangana’s progress.
The standoff briefly disrupted Assembly proceedings and drew attention to the growing political friction ahead of the Telangana elections. The BRS reaffirmed its commitment to opposing both Congress and BJP, accusing them of jeopardizing the state’s development and identity.
