Police Commissioner in Hyderabad makes promise to eradicate drug problem in the city

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy, who recently took office, has announced plans to combat drug abuse in the city. He intends to meet with members of the Telugu film industry, known as Tollywood, to address and eliminate the prevalence of drug culture within the industry. The commissioner believes that by reducing the demand for drugs, the supply will also decrease.

In a media interaction, Commissioner Sreenivasa Reddy revealed that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed the goal of making Telangana a drug-free state. He urged those involved in drug trafficking and consumption to leave the city and the state, stating that their actions would not be tolerated.

The police will closely monitor pubs and bars suspected of distributing drugs illegally. The commissioner encouraged collaboration among police departments to restrict drug usage and ensure a drug-free city. Sreenivasa Reddy emphasized the concept of friendly policing, stating that law-abiding citizens would be treated with respect while strict action would be taken against those who violate the law. Additionally, he mentioned that the SHE Teams, which provide safety for women, will be strengthened to combat harassment and eve-teasing.

Commissioner Sreenivasa Reddy, an IPS officer from the 1994 batch, took over from Sandeep Shandilya, who has been appointed as the director of the Telangana State Anti-Narcotics Bureau. Prior to his appointment as Police Commissioner, Sreenivasa Reddy held various positions within the police department, including Superintendent of Police and Additional Director General of Police.
