Police apprehend gang responsible for producing fake tablets across state lines

In Hyderabad, a joint operation by the Telangana Drug Control Administration, Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force, and Malakpet police uncovered an illegal drug manufacturing and supply network. The operation targeted a pharma factory called Nectar Herbs and Drugs in Uttarakhand.

This was the first time a coordinated inter-state operation, called ‘Operation JAI,’ was carried out to bust a ‘Spurious Drug Manufacturing Unit’ in Kotdwar, Uttarakhand. The unit was producing fake drugs and distributing them to various states, including Telangana.

During a raid on February 27 in Malakpet, officials seized 27,200 tablets of the spurious antibiotic ‘MPOD-200 Tablets’ worth Rs 7.34 lakh. These tablets were falsely labeled as being manufactured by a non-existent company called ‘Meg Lifesciences, Khasara, Sirmour.’

A person named Aravapalli Satyanarayana was caught selling the fake drugs and revealed he had bought them from Gandla Ramulu of Meerpet. Both Satyanarayana and Ramulu were apprehended by officials.

In Uttarakhand, a surprise raid at Nectar Herbs and Drugs in Kotdwar uncovered counterfeit Cefixime tablets falsely labeled as ‘Omnicef-O 200 Tablets.’ The CEO of the factory allowed Sachin Kumar to manufacture these fake drugs for various reputed companies. Sachin and the CEO were arrested by a special team.

During the raid, officials seized a large quantity of fake tablets, aluminium foil, and cartons worth Rs 44.33 lakh in total. The seized items included counterfeit drugs from companies like GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Alkem, Aristo, and Cipla.
