Hyderabad: Sandhya Theatre Seeks Police Security for “Pushpa 2” Premiere
A letter from the management of Sandhya Theatre requesting police security for the premiere of Pushpa 2 recently surfaced on social media. The letter, submitted to the Chikkadpally Police, prompted a response from the Hyderabad city police. Officials clarified that the request was submitted in the “inward section” without any detailed briefing by the theatre management.
Police Resources and Guidelines for Event Security
DCP Akshansh Yadav of the Central Zone explained the police’s approach to such requests. He noted that they often receive requests for bandobust (security arrangements) for various events, including visits by political figures, film celebrities, and religious programs. However, due to limited resources, it is not feasible to provide security for every event.
DCP Yadav stated that for significant events, organizers are expected to personally meet police officials—such as the Station House Officer (SHO), ACP, or DCP—and provide detailed information about the event. In this case, the theatre management did not follow this procedure and merely submitted the letter without further briefing.
Police Actions and Incident at the Theatre
Despite the lack of detailed communication, the police took proactive measures and arranged suitable security outside the theatre to manage the crowd. The situation was reportedly under control until actor Allu Arjun arrived at the venue. According to the police, the actor emerged from the sunroof of his vehicle and waved to the gathered crowd, which caused a surge in excitement.
His private security team began pushing through the crowd to clear a path for his vehicle, further escalating the chaos. The police claimed they advised the actor’s team to leave the area due to the large crowd, but this advice was not heeded. Allu Arjun stayed at the theatre for over two hours. Tragically, the incident resulted in the death of a woman and left her son unconscious, still on ventilator nine days later.
The DCP emphasized that the police had provided adequate security and attributed the unfortunate incident to the actor’s actions.
Clarification on Alleged Misbehavior During Arrest
The Hyderabad police also addressed allegations that they mistreated Allu Arjun during his arrest. DCP Yadav firmly denied these claims, stating that when police arrived at the actor’s residence, he requested time to change his clothes. Officers waited outside his bedroom while he prepared, and he was taken into custody only after he emerged.
The DCP clarified that there was no use of force or inappropriate behavior by the police. The actor was given ample time to speak with his family before willingly entering the police vehicle.
This incident has sparked discussions about event security protocols and the responsibilities of both organizers and public figures during high-profile events.
