BJP Leader Highlights the Importance of the Constitution on Republic Day
Hyderabad: Dr. K Laxman, Rajya Sabha Member and National President of BJP OBC Morcha, spoke about the significance of Republic Day and the values of the Indian Constitution. He said, “As we complete 75 years since the Constitution came into effect, Republic Day is celebrated across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is actively promoting the ideals of Dr BR Ambedkar, who gifted the Constitution to the nation and stressed the importance of respecting it.”
Dr. Laxman made these remarks after hoisting the national flag at BJP Telangana State Headquarters on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day. He paid floral tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, and recalled his immense contributions to the nation.
He emphasized that the Constitution not only grants fundamental rights to citizens but also strives to ensure equality among all communities. However, he criticized the Congress party, saying that since the time of Jawaharlal Nehru, the party has disrespected the Constitution. He highlighted that Dr Ambedkar resigned from his position due to differences with Nehru over Article 370, the Hindu Code Bill, and policies regarding reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Backward Classes.
Dr. Laxman also alleged that the Congress party actively worked to prevent Dr Ambedkar from entering Parliament by ensuring his defeat in elections. He commented that Rahul Gandhi carrying the Constitution is akin to “demons chanting the Vedas.”
Accusations Against Congress on Reservation Policy
He further accused the Congress of opposing the implementation of the Mandal Commission report and the recommendations of the Kaka Kalelkar Commission, which proposed reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Nehru had reportedly opposed caste-based reservations, arguing that it would create “second-class citizens.” Dr. Laxman also pointed out that Ambedkar was not awarded the Bharat Ratna during the tenures of Nehru, Indira Gandhi, or Rajiv Gandhi. He added that the Congress party consistently failed to honor Ambedkar, who worked tirelessly for the upliftment of marginalized communities.
Dr. Laxman also criticized the Congress for its actions during the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi’s government, which he said bypassed the Constitution and suppressed civil rights.
Modi Government’s Efforts to Honor Ambedkar
In contrast, Dr. Laxman praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for its efforts to honor Dr BR Ambedkar. He mentioned that five important sites related to Ambedkar’s life have been developed as national memorials, called ‘Panchatirthas.’ He added that Modi has been working to realize Ambedkar’s vision and ideals.
Telangana BJP Chief’s Call to Respect the Constitution
Union Minister and Telangana BJP Chief G Kishan Reddy also participated in the event, launching the ‘Samvidhan Gaurav Abhiyan.’ He urged everyone to pay their respects to Dr Ambedkar and criticized the Congress for its actions in the past.
Reddy stated, “Rahul Gandhi does not realize that the Congress party has mocked the Constitution and suppressed civil rights since the Nehru era. When Indira Gandhi was declared ineligible for Parliament by the Allahabad High Court, she imposed an Emergency to maintain power. Political leaders were unjustly arrested under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA Act), including leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani, Venkaiah Naidu, and Acharya Kripalani.”
He concluded by encouraging all Indians and BJP workers to move forward with the slogan, ‘Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman’ (Our Constitution, Our Pride).
