"Pink Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness Kicks Off"

Justice Surepalli Nanda highlighted the increasing cases of breast cancer among women and the need for more awareness. She spoke about this issue during the Pink Walk organized by Renova Century Oncology.

October is globally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The goal is to spread the message about the importance of early detection, prevention, and screening for breast cancer.

To mark this month, Renova Century Oncology held a 3 km Pink Walk. The walk started from their campus at Road No. 12, Banjara Hills and ended at City Center, Road No. 1, Banjara Hills. Justice Nanda, the chief guest, officially started the event by flagging it off and releasing balloons. She also launched a special cancer screening package offered by Renova Cancer Center for Rs. 999. Medical staff, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics, took part in the walk, carrying slogans and placards to raise awareness.

Justice Nanda praised the Pink Walk initiative. She said that due to changing lifestyles, stress, and other factors, women face many health issues, especially cancer. She noted that breast cancer cases are rising across all age groups.

She further mentioned that about 2.3 million women worldwide are affected by breast cancer every year. Justice Nanda also talked about the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Breast Cancer Initiative (GBCI), launched in 2021. This initiative aims to reduce the death rate from breast cancer by 2.5% annually by 2040 through early detection and awareness.

She advised women to maintain a healthy lifestyle, exercise regularly, and avoid smoking and alcohol. Justice Nanda also emphasized the need for both government and private organizations to work together to spread awareness, especially through health camps.

Dr. Srinivas Juluri, Chief Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Renova Century Oncology, added that early detection of breast cancer can save many lives. He encouraged women to regularly self-examine for lumps, skin discoloration, or changes in breast shape. He also suggested checking for nipple changes, such as redness or bleeding. Starting at age 40, women should get a mammogram every year, especially if there is a family history of breast or ovarian cancer.

Dr. Juluri also recommended that women maintain a healthy weight, eat a balanced diet, and consider genetic testing if there is a family history of breast cancer.

During the event, Mr. Ravindranath Garaga, COO of Renova Group of Hospitals, thanked Justice Nanda for her presence. He said that awareness and preventive measures can play a big role in fighting breast cancer.

He also pointed out that Renova Hospitals offer advanced treatments and have state-of-the-art facilities to help patients with cancer. The hospital has a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and other professionals who work hard to provide quality care.

The event was attended by many medical professionals, including Dr. K Srinivasa Rao, Dr. Udaykumar Punukollu, Dr. Ashwin Pandit, Dr. Nishit Vaddeboina, Dr. Jyoti Jonnadula, Dr. S Arjun, Mr. Zaheer Ahmed, Mr. D Dinesh, and Mr. Sai Babu. Non-medical staff, nurses, and paramedics also participated in the event.

By organizing this event, Renova Century Hospitals aims to empower women with knowledge and encourage them to take charge of their health.
