Hyderabad: Problems in Government Schools Despite Promises of Global Standards
At a time when the State government is aiming to achieve global standards in education, there are significant issues affecting government schools.
In Adilabad, it has been alleged that the District Education Officer (DEO) was upset with the husband of a lady teacher. As a result, he reportedly reduced her transfer points, which stopped her from moving to her desired school.
In Mahbubabad, the Teachers’ Union leaders, K Jangaiah and Chava Ravi, claimed that men were given promotions meant for women in the SC category. Even the Director of School Education’s (DSE) intervention did not help the affected teachers get their rightful transfers.
There are also reports of misconduct, such as assigning a teacher to do clerical work, which is against the Right to Education Act. Teachers are now protesting on a large scale, demanding action against these irregularities.
The Union leaders have called for the State Education Secretary to investigate these allegations and take action against the DEOs involved.
Additionally, it has been 40 days since the transfer and promotion process was completed. Despite using a transparent web counseling method, technical issues and errors have caused problems. The education department has given teachers a week to file appeals.
Some teachers have complained about losses due to these errors. Even after 40 days, their appeals have not been resolved. As a result, teachers are frequently visiting the DSE. Some have been relieved from their old positions and joined new ones, while others are still waiting for their appeals to be addressed.
Just a week ago, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy urged government school teachers to work with the State government to build a strong future for Telangana’s children. However, with these ongoing issues, it raises the question: Is it enough to build grand buildings and offer English medium education, or should the focus be on creating a culture of education that fosters critical thinking?
