In Nagar Kurnool district, two strange fish were spotted crawling on the road after heavy rains in Pentlavelli mandal. These fish were seen on the way from Pentlavelli to Manchalakatta, attracting people and farmers to come and see them.
The sight of fish crawling on the road surprised many people, leading some to take videos and share them on social media where they quickly went viral. Nagar Kurnool District Fisheries Officer Rahman explained that this type of fish typically lives in rivers, ponds, and streams.
The fish, known as snoring fish or climbing fish, has a scientific name of Anabas testudueneus and can grow up to about 25 cm. It crawls along the ground using saw-like teeth on the gill cavity on either side of its head, and is even capable of climbing trees. Fishermen in the Andhra region often rear this type of fish in ponds for food, and it is suspected that the seed of this fish may have been brought to the area from Andhra.
