Passengers at Secunderabad railway station express regret as train announcements are drowned out

The ongoing redevelopment works at Secunderabad railway station in Hyderabad are causing difficulties for passengers. They are finding it hard to hear the train announcements for departures and arrivals. As a solution, passengers have requested that a few trains be diverted to Malkajgiri, Malakpet, and other connecting stations to alleviate the rush at Secunderabad station.

Passengers have been facing a pathetic situation during the night hours at the station premises. The remodeling work has been ongoing for the past three months, and recently the booking offices were relocated to a temporary building. The ticket vending machines are always occupied in the evening, and there is no space to walk on the foot overbridges (FOBs) since passengers are standing on them to hear the announcements.

Noor Ahmed, General Secretary for LT and MMTS, expressed that the ongoing work at Secunderabad has caused disturbance. Visual boards have been removed, and the announcements are not clear. He suggested that South-Central Railways provide temporary arrangements until the redevelopment works are completed.

To reduce overcrowding at Secunderabad station, it is proposed that trains originating from Lingampally and heading towards Kazipet/Nalgonda be diverted via Malkajgiri. This way, 40% of passengers will board or deboard at Malkajgiri. Trains from the Kurnool side should stop at Malakpet, and super-fast trains should stop at Malkajgiri. This will prevent passengers from having to go to Kacheguda or Secunderabad, reducing the rush at Kacheguda.

Passengers are finding it extremely difficult to hear announcements and the FOBs are always overcrowded due to the ongoing works. One passenger, Ravi, an IT employee, mentioned that he even missed his train due to the confusion. He suggested that a few trains be diverted to important stations by SCR officials.
