Osmania University Teachers Association (OUTA) has strongly criticized the State government for giving away prime land of Osmania University worth Rs 200 crore. OUTA stated that the Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University agreed to hand over the land to the government in exchange for support in infrastructure development. The Deputy Speaker, T Padma Rao, also announced plans to build a 100-bed super specialty hospital on the university’s land. OUTA condemned this action, claiming that it was a quid pro quo for the extension of the Vice-Chancellor’s second term. The university administration has appointed Justice O. Chinnappa Reddy, a retired Supreme Court judge, to investigate the matter regarding the land.
Justice Chinnappa Reddy’s report mentioned that the university syndicate resolved in 1986 to stop allotting university land to outside agencies for educational, research, or any other purposes. He recommended that there should be no alienation of university land for any purpose and that the resolution from 1986 should be strictly followed.
