Oklahoma Struck by Severe Weather and Tornadoes, Resulting in Two Fatalities

Two people died in Oklahoma due to tornadoes and severe weather on Wednesday. The emergency management authorities in McClain county confirmed the deaths on Facebook, and search and rescue efforts continued late into the night. Crews responded to injuries and trapped people within their shelters. The storm caused severe damage to buildings, and debris littered the ground around the town of Cole. The National Weather Service office in Norman, Oklahoma, described the tornadoes and supercell storms as “erratic.” The storm’s toll could rise, warned authorities.

The authorities conducted grid searches in an approximate ten-mile path. Scott Gibbons, a sheriff’s deputy, said that the numbers of casualties may increase as the night goes on, and more information comes forward. The National Weather Service office later tweeted that the area was storm-free after eight hours of severe weather.
