Officials urged by Health Minister T Harish Rao to expand Kanti Velugu camps in Hyderabad

The Health Minister of Hyderabad, T Harish Rao, has asked officials to increase the number of special camps for the Kanti Velugu program. These camps will distribute spectacles to those who need them in courts, jails, police stations, press offices, and RTC centers. The Kanti Velugu program aims to prevent blindness in Telangana and has been very successful so far. Over 1.17 crore people have undergone eye screenings in the 59 working days of the program. The target is to reach two crore people.

Harish praised the department officials and public representatives for their hard work and dedication to the program’s success. The medical staff working for Kanti Velugu have been provided with necessary facilities such as food, accommodation, and transportation. The government has also released funds to districts to ensure that all necessary facilities are in place. So far, over 15 lakh people have received reading glasses, and 9.95 lakh people have received prescription glasses. Of the total number of people tested, 85 lakhs (72 percent) did not have any eye problems.

Harish has directed DMHOs to ensure that Kanti Velugu is accessible to everyone who needs it. The remaining districts have been given 41 working days to complete their targets. Officials have accelerated CPR training, with 73,370 health personnel, police, municipal, Panchayat, and other personnel already receiving training. The remaining districts will receive training in district centers with the cooperation of District Collectors, Mall owners, market complex associations, trade associations, and college students.
