Hyderabad: Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) chairman and managing director, Musharraf Faruqui, has asked officers to improve the distribution and transmission systems to handle the high power demand expected in the upcoming summer season. On Thursday, he held a review meeting with Telangana Transco Director of Transmission, Jagath Reddy, and other engineers.
The electricity demand has grown significantly. Last year, the peak demand was 3,756 MW, but this year it has increased to 4,352 MW, showing a growth of about 16%. Similarly, electricity consumption has also risen from 81.39 million units last year to 90.68 million units this year, about a 12% increase. It is estimated that electricity demand will rise even more, by about 20–25%, in the summer of 2025.
In certain areas like Nemali Nagar, Gopanpally, Kokapet, Koheda, and other suburban areas of Greater Hyderabad, the demand is particularly high. The CMD has directed officials to set up 220/132/33 KV substations and strengthen other networks in these areas to meet the growing power needs.
Faruqui also emphasized the importance of completing ongoing maintenance and repair work on time without compromising quality. He urged the officers to be careful while taking Line Clearance (LC) for maintenance works and to coordinate with engineers from both Transco and DISCOM. He instructed that all maintenance work should be finished 100% before the Sankranti festival.
