The Hyderabad District Election Officer (DEO), Ronald Rose, has instructed election officials to conduct checks throughout the city due to the model code of conduct being in effect. During a review meeting at GHMC headquarters, Rose met with officials from RBI, Income-Tax, Vigilance, RTA, and NCB to discuss the necessary measures.
According to the directions from the Election Commission, there should be extensive parcel, courier, train checking, and border surveillance to prevent the movement of cash and liquor in Hyderabad district. Rose emphasized the installation of CCTV cameras at all wine shops, which should be monitored through the control room. The Excise department should also identify hot spots and conduct checks at all go-downs.
Additionally, 18 integrated check-posts should be utilized for checks. Information regarding large cash transactions in the past six months through RBI and post offices should be obtained. The DEO also mentioned the need to monitor money transfers made through UPI apps such as Google Pay, Phone Pay, and Paytm.
The I-Tax department will take action on cash transactions exceeding Rs.10 lakh. It is crucial to secure details of such transactions as well as large money transfers. Banks should also provide information about the sources of cash. Surveillance and cameras should be installed on vehicles depositing cash in ATMs, and illegally transported cash must be seized and reported to the District Grievance Cell. I-T officials should thoroughly investigate suspected cash transactions.
RTA officials will deploy staff at the 18 check-posts, while the head of NCB emphasized extensive checks on drugs being transported from Ghatkesar. Surveillance is also needed at locations where cigarettes and ganja are supplied. Intelligence officials recommended inspections of industrial units and godowns.
To combat gold and silver smuggling, wholesale markets should be checked using e-waybills and FMCG. In instances of cash seizures by the District Grievance Cell, vehicle numbers and time should be recorded for documentation purposes.
