Officials given Jan 31 deadline by Uttam for rice delivery to FCI

Hyderabad: Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has instructed officials to speed up the delivery of rice to FCI by January 31. In a video conference with District Collectors and officials, the Minister expressed concern about the delay in custom milling of rice and poor performance in deliveries. He emphasized that the Civil Supplies Corporation needs to supply 7.83 lakh metric tonnes of rice to FCI by the deadline, and all Telangana millers must deliver about 42 lakh metric tonnes of rice in the coming days.

The Minister highlighted that the Civil Supplies Corporation has taken loans to collect paddy from farmers and supply it to the millers. However, delays in rice distribution have resulted in significant losses for the corporation. He warned that if there is a delay in distributing the fixed quantity of CMR rice to FCI, it would impact future allocations to Telangana.

To ensure timely delivery of rice to FCI, the Minister urged officials to improve procedures and streamline the process. He requested District Collectors and officials to prioritize rice distribution and set daily targets to achieve the deadline.

The Minister also expressed concern about the poor quality of PDS rice. He mentioned that there are reports of rice being recycled or diverted for other purposes instead of reaching the poor. Strict action will be taken against those involved in such activities.

Furthermore, the Minister directed officials to investigate complaints from ration shop owners who are receiving less rice per bag than expected. He emphasized the need to address any negligence on the part of the government that affects ration shop owners.

Overall, the Minister stressed the importance of efficient rice delivery and quality control to meet the targets and ensure the well-being of the Civil Supplies Corporation and the people of Telangana.
