The discussion on One Nation, One Election has begun in New Delhi. Senior officials from the Law Ministry recently met with former President Ram Nath Kovind. Kovind is the head of a committee that is looking into the possibility of having simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local bodies.
During the meeting, Law Secretary Niten Chandra, Legislative Secretary Rita Vashishtha, and other officials briefed Kovind on their plans for the committee’s agenda. Niten Chandra is also the secretary of the high-level committee, while Rita Vashishtha’s department handles election issues and related laws.
