Hyderabad city police have registered a total of 24,821 cases in 2023, which is slightly higher than last year’s 24,220 cases. The annual report for 2023 was presented by Commissioner Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy, who stated that it has been a peaceful year despite the festival season and State Assembly elections. The conviction rate has increased by 20%, which is a positive development for the city.

Out of the total cases registered in 2023, 24,821 were under IPC, SLL (Special Local Laws), and other categories, compared to 24,220 cases in 2022. There was a slight decrease in murder cases, with 63 reported in 2023 compared to 79 in 2022. However, attempted murder cases increased from 213 in 2022 to 262 in 2023.

Crimes against women saw a 12% increase, with 2,775 cases in 2023 compared to 2,484 cases in the previous year. On the other hand, cases related to POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) decreased by 12% from 428 in 2022 to 377 in 2023. This can be attributed to the efforts made to prioritize women’s safety and strengthen SHE Teams.

There was a significant increase of 16% in other bodily offenses compared to the previous year. In 2023, there were 2,357 cases registered, while in 2022, there were 2,181 cases. Additionally, economic offenses and cybercrime cases, including online frauds and deepfake incidents, also increased.

The Hyderabad City police have expanded their operations by adding new wings. Two new law & order zones, 11 ACP divisions, and 11 new police stations have been added to the city. Furthermore, a women’s wing has been established in each law & order police station.
