No Constitutional Provision for Religion-Based Reservations: Kishan

Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, recently stated that religious reservations have no place in the Indian constitution. He emphasized that the issue of religious-based reservations falls under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.

Speaking to the media in New Delhi on Tuesday, Reddy criticized Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. He pointed out that the Chief Minister’s promise to implement religious-based reservations in Maharashtra, if Congress comes to power, goes against the High Court’s ruling. Kishan Reddy further accused the Congress party of using such promises for vote bank politics and appeasement.

Regarding a recent incident in Lagacharla, Reddy noted that the law would take its own course, without elaborating further.

Kishan Reddy also mentioned a meeting held on Monday to discuss reforms in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. He welcomed the decisions made during the meeting, particularly the one that only Hindus should be employed on temple premises. He said that this decision respects the sentiments of the people. Additionally, he expressed that individuals from other faiths working in temples should be reassigned to different positions to maintain the sanctity of the religious sites.
