Residents Struggle as Amber Lake Turns into a Dump Yard
Residents of Nizampet are facing sleepless nights due to the pollution and neglect of Amber Lake. Once a beautiful water body, the lake has now been turned into an illegal dumping ground. Frustrated by the inaction of authorities, some residents have started an awareness campaign to highlight the issue and push for action.
Amber Lake was once home to many species of birds, but now it is overrun by mosquitoes, pigs, and stray dogs. The lake, which originally covered 200 acres, has been significantly encroached upon. The surrounding areas have become a garbage dump, with local butchers dumping meat waste into the water, causing a foul smell.
Residents have also pointed out that sewage from households in Nizampet is being directly discharged into the lake. This, combined with the illegal dumping of waste, has made living conditions unbearable for those nearby.
The strong stench from the lake forces residents to keep their doors and windows shut at all times. With no action from officials, some locals have taken matters into their own hands by organizing awareness campaigns to draw attention to the lake’s worsening condition.
Recently, a group of residents held a rally to educate both the public and officials about the severity of the issue. They hope this effort will push authorities to take corrective measures.
Teja, a social activist, shared his concerns, saying, “Waste food scraps and faecal waste are being dumped into the lake, especially at night. Despite submitting several complaints to officials, no action has been taken. This has caused severe hardship for the locals. To highlight the issue, we have started an awareness campaign.”
Residents are urging authorities to take immediate steps to restore and clean Amber Lake before conditions worsen further.
