Students at Nizam College in Hyderabad held a protest to raise awareness about the environmental crisis in Joshimath. The students believe that the government’s poor planning and inaction is affecting both people and nature. They also see the Chevella highway project as a similar issue, where thousands of trees will be cut down for construction, emitting huge volumes of carbon. The students explained that planting trees is the only solution for carbon storage, but the State government in India is pursuing unsustainable projects. Although the effects of the Chevella highway construction project are not visible yet, the students fear that it will have serious consequences for future generations. To raise awareness, they held a silent protest.
