Niranjan announces start of Metro construction in Old City on March 7

G Niranjan, TPCC senior vice-president & Chairman of the Election Commission Coordination Committee, stated that the people of the old city and the Congress party are happy about CM Revanth Reddy’s decision to begin metro works in the old city of Hyderabad on March 7 at Falakunama. Metro services started in Hyderabad in 2017 but were halted at Mahatma Gandhi bus stand due to objections from the Majlis party. L&T did not agree to an alternative route proposed by the Majlis party and could not continue the project due to expired agreements and increased costs.

During an all-party meeting in 2014, Majlis MLAs obstructed the original proposal for the Old City Metro. The cost of the project from Imiliban to Falakunama has now exceeded 2000 crore due to delays caused by Majlis leaders. Opposition parties, citizen forums, and Congress have protested this delay and urged for metro rail facilities in the Old City. Niranjan called for Majlis leaders to apologize to the people for the delay and urged CM Revanth Reddy to allocate funds promptly for the metro works.
