New Year celebrations across State face restrictions by Police

Hyderabad: The year 2023 is coming to an end and the youth are excitedly preparing to welcome the new year. However, the Telangana Police Department is taking action against those who drink alcohol and cause trouble on the roads. They have made it mandatory for all traffic and law enforcement police stations to set up checkpoints and conduct breathalyzer tests. These tests will start from 8 pm on Sunday.

The DGP office has issued orders to all police commissionerates and SP offices in the state to impound the vehicles of those caught drinking alcohol. Each police station will have 5 checkpoints where cases will be registered against those who drive recklessly or cause public disturbance. Depending on the level of alcohol in their system, offenders may face a fine of Rs10,000 and imprisonment for 6 months. If New Year events continue after 1 am, cases will be registered.

The police are keeping a close watch on New Year celebrations in Greater Hyderabad. There will be a total of 260 check posts under 59 traffic police stations in three commissionerates. In areas like Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Begumpet, Saifabad, and Cyberabad where most events take place, each station will have 5 to 7 check posts.

Inspections will be conducted from 8 pm on Sunday until 7 am on Monday. Only motorists going to the airport on ORR will be allowed to pass through. Flyovers, Tank Bund, and Necklace Road will be closed, except for Langarhouse and Begumpet flyovers. Metro services will be available in the city until midnight on Sunday for New Year’s Eve.
