    New Delhi, India – The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of new Chief Justices for seven High Courts across the country. The states of Bombay, Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Kerala will witness new heads of their respective High Courts. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Collegium led by Chief Justice of India, Deepak Mishra, on Wednesday.

    Following the approval by the central government, Justice Sunitha Agarwal has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. The other recommended Chief Justices for the respective High Courts are yet to be announced. Justice Devi Chandrachud, who currently serves as the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, has been recommended as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court. Similarly, Justice Sunitha Agarwal, who is currently serving as a judge in the Gujarat High Court, has been recommended as the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court.

    Justice Alok Aradhe has been recommended as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court. Meanwhile, Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur of Bombay High Court has been recommended as the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court. Additionally, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice S. Venkatanarayana Bhatta have been recommended for elevation as judges of the Supreme Court.

    The decision to recommend these appointments comes after the Supreme Court Collegium reviewed the proposals made by the High Courts and subsequently sought approval from President Ram Nath Kovind. These appointments will lead to promotions for the respective judges, bringing them one step closer to reaching the highest judicial positions in the country.

    Currently, Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and S. Venkatanarayana Bhatta serve as Chief Justices of Telangana and Kerala High Courts respectively. The elevation of these judges to the Supreme Court has been lauded as a significant step towards strengthening the judiciary and ensuring the smooth functioning of the legal system in the country.
