Famous choreographer Shaik Jani Basha, widely known as Jani Master, has been accused of sexually assaulting a colleague. A 21-year-old woman, who is also a choreographer, filed a complaint against him with the Raidurgam police in Cyberabad. She claims that Jani attacked her multiple times during their outdoor shoots.
The woman said she had been working closely with Jani for several months. According to her statement, the assaults happened in different cities, including Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. She also mentioned that Jani assaulted her several times at her home in Narsingi.
After receiving the complaint, the Raidurgam police registered a zero First Information Report (FIR). Since the woman lives in Narsingi, the case has now been transferred to the Narsingi police for further investigation. The police have charged Jani under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including section 376 (rape), section 506 (criminal intimidation), and section 323 (causing hurt).
Shikha Goel, Director General of Telangana’s Women Safety Wing, said that members from the film industry have contacted authorities for advice about the case. She suggested they conduct an internal investigation under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act while allowing the legal proceedings to continue.
This is not the first time Jani Master has had legal issues. In June, a dancer named Satish filed a harassment case against him. Additionally, in 2019, Jani was sentenced to six months in jail for a 2015 fight at a college.
The investigation into the current case is ongoing.
