Nalgonda: Alleged Medical Negligence Leads to Newborn's Death

A newborn baby’s death at the Nalgonda Government General Hospital has sparked significant concern and outrage. The tragedy occurred after a pregnant woman named Cherukupalli Srilatha, from Gyarakunta Palem in the Madgulapalli area, faced complications during her labor.

Srilatha was initially planning to go to a private hospital when a doctor at the government hospital intervened. The doctor reportedly scolded her and insisted on performing the delivery at the hospital. Unfortunately, the newborn did not survive the operation.

The family of the woman alleged that the baby died because the doctor forced the delivery under pressure. They claimed that the doctor had been reprimanded by senior officials earlier for a different incident where another pregnant woman was made to deliver in a chair, which may have influenced the doctor’s decision to act hastily.

This incident led to a major disruption at the hospital’s Mata Shishu Health Center. In response to the previous reprimand and show-cause notices, several doctors and nurses went on a mass casual leave. Their protest caused significant confusion and severely disrupted hospital services.

With only two doctors on duty, including the Head of the Department (HOD) and a Professor, the hospital was left severely understaffed. On Saturday night, two patients were left unattended because the doctors on duty were unable to manage the situation.

During this time, Srilatha was reportedly stopped by hospital staff as she was trying to leave for another hospital. She was rushed into surgery, which tragically resulted in the death of her newborn baby.
