Nagarjuna Sagar Project Opens 26 Gates to Release Floodwater

The floodwaters are currently flowing at the Nagarjuna Sagar project. Because of this, authorities have lifted 26 gates to release a large amount of water.

Out of these gates, 22 are raised to a height of 5 feet, and 4 are lifted to 10 feet. This helps to efficiently discharge water and manage the rising levels.

At present, the project is receiving an influx of 2.53 lakh cusecs of water. To ensure safety, 2.69 lakh cusecs of water are being released downstream.

The full water level for the Nagarjuna Sagar project is 590 feet. Currently, the water level is at 585.30 feet, which means there is still a significant amount of water in the reservoir.

The Nagarjuna Sagar project can store up to 312.50 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of water. Right now, it holds 298.30 TMC, indicating that it is nearing full capacity due to the ongoing floods.

Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation to manage water levels effectively. They are prioritizing both flood relief efforts and downstream safety.

Community members are advised to stay alert and follow guidelines during this period of high water release.
