The Telangana Assembly passed two important amendment bills on Monday. These were the Telangana Municipalities (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Telangana Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill.

During the discussion, several BRS MLAs expressed concerns about merging villages that had recently become part of a municipality into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Former Minister Ch Malla Reddy pointed out that villages now under Medchal Municipality might face difficulties if merged into a larger municipal corporation.

MLA K P Vivekananda suggested that the government should allow these municipalities to settle first. He also emphasized the need to consider the opinions of people and stakeholders before making any decisions about merging them into GHMC. Palla Rajeshwar Reddy added that the government should focus on improving infrastructure before merging villages. He also worried that villagers might struggle with higher taxes after the merger.

Responding to these concerns, Minister D Sridhar Babu assured that the government was following a rational approach. He stated that a detailed study would be conducted, considering the views of all stakeholders. The Minister also mentioned that the government had already allocated funds to address any issues that might arise from merging villages into municipalities and corporations.
