Mumbai Indians secured a spot in the final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 after defeating UP Warriorz by 72 runs in the Eliminator match at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy. Riding on the brilliant performances of Nat Sciver-Brunt, who scored an unbeaten 72 off 38 balls, and Issy Wong, who took four wickets for 15 runs, Mumbai Indians posted a total of 182-4 in 20 overs. Despite good starts from Amelia Kerr (29), Hayley Matthews (26), Yastika Bhatia (21), and Harmanpreet Kaur (14), Mumbai Indians could not convert them into big innings. Sophie Ecclestone was the most successful bowler for UP Warriorz, taking two wickets for 39 runs. In response, UP Warriorz kept losing wickets at regular intervals, and Kiran Navgire’s 43 off 27 with four sixes and three boundaries was the only bright spot. However, Wong’s sensational bowling performance, including the first hat-trick of WPL in the 13th over, demolished the UP batting order. Eventually, UP Warriorz were bowled out for 110 in 17.4 overs, losing by a huge margin of 72 runs. Mumbai Indians will now face Delhi Capitals in the final of the WPL 2023 on Sunday.
