Mosquito Infestation Plagues Hyderabad Due to Growing Breeding Grounds

Following recent rains, there has been a rise in mosquito numbers in parts of Hyderabad, especially near water bodies and open nalas. The stagnant water and sewage overflow are contributing to the increase in mosquitoes.

The sudden surge in mosquitoes has been causing trouble for city residents, with many experiencing sleepless nights. Despite efforts to control the mosquito population, including fogging, the problem persists. Residential areas are seeing a significant increase in mosquitoes after the recent rains.

Residents have noticed a decrease in fogging activities in their neighborhoods, leading to more mosquito problems. Some areas are facing sewage issues during rains, putting people at risk for diseases like dengue and malaria. Hotspots for mosquitoes include Jubilee Hills, Alwal, Mehdipatnam, Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Malakpet, and Kukatpally circles.

Complaints about mosquitoes have come from all over the city, including prime locations like Banjara Hills, Madhapur, Hitech City, Serilingampally, and Marredpally. Residential colonies near lakes have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The Musi riverbank areas are also heavily affected.

Residents living near nalas, the Musi river, and water bodies are at high risk for mosquito-borne diseases. Garbage points with accumulated water can also become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The GHMC is receiving numerous complaints and addressing them promptly to prevent the spread of diseases.

To combat waterborne diseases, GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata has instructed officials to focus on sanitation practices. Regular street sweeping and cleanliness efforts are being emphasized to prevent mosquito breeding. Awareness drives and health seminars on mosquito prevention are also being conducted for residents.
