Modi's charisma and vote polarisation lead to BJP's victory in Chevella

In Rangareddy, BJP candidate Konda Vishweshwar Reddy (KVR) won by a large margin of 1,72,897 votes for the second time. He first won in 2014 as Chevella MP, but lost in 2019. This time, running with the BJP, he was able to secure his seat.

The BJP received a total of 8,09,882 votes, with around five lakh coming from key areas like Serilingampally, Rajendranagar, and Maheshwaram, known for their IT industry presence. These areas contributed significant numbers of votes to the BJP.

Despite previous attempts by the BJP to win in this region with strong candidates, they were unsuccessful due to the presence of regional parties like Telugu Desam and BRS. However, this time, the BJP’s focus on Central government welfare schemes and polarisation of politics helped them gain support from voters.

The BJP’s influence has grown over the past decade in Ranga Reddy district, particularly in Chevella and Mahbubnagar LS segments. The party’s emphasis on development initiatives and Hindutva sentiments resonated with voters in these areas, where Hindu voters make up a large majority.

The revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhiya, and slogans like “Ab Ki Baar 400 Ke Par” attracted voters in Chevella. The BJP’s promises of development and implementation of Hindutva policies also helped solidify their support in Ranga Reddy district.

Community activist A Mahender Yadav noted that the BJP’s focus on development, revocation of Article 370, and implementation of Hindutva policies helped them consolidate their vote base in Ranga Reddy district. The party’s support for the statehood struggle and formation of Telangana also contributed to their growing presence in the region.
