Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Hyderabad has caused mixed reactions among political parties in the state. While the state BJP is pleased with his comments about the ruling party, the BRS and Congress parties are disappointed with his visit. The BRS expressed anger over Modi’s allegations that the state lacked cooperation with the central government, calling him a liar. The Congress party, on the other hand, criticized the Prime Minister for not announcing any new schemes for the state.
What particularly upset political leaders was Modi’s criticism of ‘Parivarvaad’ or dynastic politics, which he said breeds corruption. Without naming anyone, he accused those who practice ‘parivarvaad’ of looting even the ration given to the poor in Telangana. He emphasized that progress in a state is crucial for overall national growth, but a handful of people who encourage ‘parivarvaad’ are trying to reap benefits from projects being implemented for the people of Telangana. He asked the public if acts of corruption should be investigated, to which they responded with cheers.
Modi also expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of cooperation from the state government in taking up developmental activities in Telangana. He urged the BRS government not to obstruct developmental activities that would benefit the people of the state. He tweeted a warning to Telangana to be wary of those who are only interested in seeing their families flourish, rather than working for the welfare of the country and society.
