Errors in Telangana Intermediate Exam Papers Confuse Students

On the third day of the intermediate first-year exams in Telangana, students were surprised to find errors in the Botany and Political Science question papers. Both the English and Telugu versions contained mistakes. Additionally, errors were identified in the Mathematics-IA Telugu medium question paper.

A total of six mistakes, including spelling errors and misprints, were found in these subjects, causing confusion among students. Invigilators noticed errors in various questions across the three subjects. These included question number 13 in the Botany (Telugu medium) paper, question number 5 in the Botany (English medium) paper, questions 32 and 20 in the Political Science (English and Telugu mediums) papers, and questions 4 and 9 in the Mathematics-IA (Telugu medium) paper.

Teachers pointed out that this was not the first time such issues had occurred. Just a day earlier, students had reported grammatical mistakes and other errors in the English question paper of the second-year intermediate exam.

One of the invigilators mentioned that students who were already familiar with the correct answers quickly identified some of the mistakes. As soon as the errors were noticed, the exam centres were informed, and necessary corrections were made. The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TS BIE) assured students that the mistakes would not affect their scores. The Board also announced that students who attempted question number 7 in the English Paper-II would receive four additional marks due to unclear lines in a pie chart-related question.

Meanwhile, the attendance report showed that 23,774 students were absent from the exams. Out of the 5,53,423 students who registered for the Mathematics-IA, Botany-I, and Political Science-I papers, only 5,29,649 appeared for the exams. The Board is investigating the reasons behind the high absentee rate and is planning measures to improve attendance in future exams.

In addition, officials are working on improving the clarity of exam questions to prevent such errors from happening again. The Board also reported five malpractice cases during the exams—three in Nalgonda, and one each in Karimnagar and Nizamabad.
