Officials Urged to Prevent Drinking Water Shortages in Nalgonda

Nalgonda: Agriculture Minister and District In-charge Tummala Nageshwar Rao has instructed officials to take necessary measures to prevent drinking water shortages during the summer. On Saturday, he held a review meeting at Udayaditya Bhavan in Nalgonda along with Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy. The meeting included district collectors and officials to discuss issues related to irrigation, drinking water, and electricity.

During the meeting, MLAs raised several concerns. Minister Tummala mentioned that a similar meeting was planned in February but had to be postponed due to the election code. He directed officials to visit the affected areas, identify problems, and resolve them immediately by coordinating with the police and revenue departments.

To address urgent needs, funds will be allocated to district collectors. Additionally, MLAs will receive funds through the Chief Minister’s intervention. Tummala also assured that the work to connect Godavari water to Krishna through the Sitarama Project would be completed within six months.

Legislative Council Chairman Sukhender Reddy pointed out that the maintenance of canals in the district is not being managed properly. He stressed the need for lining the AMRP canal and raised concerns about farmers using large motors to draw water from canals, preventing water from reaching tail-end lands.

Minister Komatireddy instructed Mission Bhagiratha officials to ensure that no farmland dries up, as crops are currently in the harvesting stage. He also addressed electricity issues, highlighting that low voltage is affecting farmers despite the installation of transformers. Officials were urged to resolve this problem quickly to avoid inconvenience.

District collectors were asked to prioritize drinking water supply and ensure that Rs 15,000 is available for each panchayat. The drinking water supply should be funded through SDF (State Disaster Fund) resources.

Collector Ila Tripathi provided an update on the district’s drinking water, irrigation, and electricity conditions. She reported that approximately 140 million liters of drinking water are needed daily, with no major issues except in merged villages. She also requested Rs 30 crore under SDF for pipeline repairs to improve water supply.
