Hyderabad: Health Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha shared on Tuesday that he was born in Gandhi Hospital. He expressed that all patients visiting the hospital are like his “brothers and sisters.” He urged the authorities to provide proper infrastructure for the attendants who accompany the patients.
The minister made an unexpected visit to Gandhi and Kingkoti hospitals. During a review meeting at the superintendent’s office, he inquired about the availability of beds. Later, he inspected various departments and interacted with patients to check on their well-being. He also discussed the services being provided to them.
Rajanarasimha instructed the Gandhi Hospital superintendent to improve the facilities for the attendants who are there to take care of patients undergoing treatment. He noticed that many attendants were sitting on the floor and addressed their hardships. He then directed officials to ensure proper facilities for these attendants.
Speaking to the media, Rajanarasimha stated, “I was born in Gandhi. I am a Dalit child. All patients who come to government hospitals, like Gandhi and Osmania, are like my elder sisters. It is my responsibility to take care of my people.” He criticized Opposition leaders for speaking “like landlords” and pointed out that Dalits, tribals, and the poor often come to government hospitals when they are in need.
The minister also announced that an IVF center will be available at Gandhi Hospital within a week. He mentioned that doctors who had been stuck in one place for a long time had been transferred. He clarified that there is no shortage of doctors in the hospitals, and in necessary cases, doctors are being hired on contract.
Additionally, Rajanarasimha said that he would send the details requested by the Centre regarding the Safety of Medical Students before September 14. He informed that a preliminary meeting had already been held to discuss providing security in hospitals. He also announced that the foundation stone for a new hostel building for doctors at Gandhi Hospital would be laid soon, with a budget of Rs 79 crore already allocated by the government.
