MIM Advocates for Caste Survey of BC-E Subgroups in Telangana

A group from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) met with the chairman of the Backward Class (BC) Commission on Wednesday. They requested a separate caste survey for the BC-E sub-class. This would be done alongside a survey for 14 other sub-classes, which are eligible for a four percent reservation in the State of Telangana.

The delegation was led by Akbaruddin Owaisi, the floor leader and MLA from Chandrayangutta. He was joined by other MLAs, including Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala (Malakpet), Mir Zulfiqar Ali (Charminar), Mohammed Mubeen (Bahadurpura), and former MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri.

Ahmed Balala explained that AIMIM submitted a representation to the Commission, asking for a separate caste survey. They also provided a list of 14 sub-classes that they want to be included in the survey.

These sub-classes include Achchukattalavandlu, Singali, Singamvallu, Achchupanivallu, Attar Saibulu, Attarillu, Muslim Dhobi, Faqir, Garadi Muslim, Pamulavallu, Gosangi Muslim, Nai Muslim, Labba, and others. They believe these groups should be part of the caste survey.

Balala also mentioned that the Telangana government issued orders on October 11 for a household survey. This survey will collect information about the social, educational, economic, and political status of people across the State. The Backward Classes Commission is working with the planning department to carry out this survey.

The commission will use the data from the survey to decide what percentage of reservations should be given to Backward Classes in local bodies.

To gather more information, the commission will visit all districts and hold public hearings in the old ten district headquarters, starting on October 24. They will soon issue a notification about this plan.

The commission also plans to meet with various stakeholders, including intellectuals from the Backward Classes, to make sure they consider different perspectives.
