Microsoft celebrated 25 years in Hyderabad by opening a new campus in Gachibowli on Thursday. The event was led by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and IT & Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu. It marks an important step in the city’s growth as a global technology hub.
The new campus is a 1.1 million square-foot, eco-friendly facility that can accommodate 2,500 more employees. Hyderabad is Microsoft’s largest research and development center outside the United States, with over 20,000 professionals in India—more than half of them based in the city.
During the event, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy spoke about Hyderabad’s rise as a global innovation center. He highlighted how the city and Microsoft have grown together, attracting top talent and major investments.
Microsoft also announced plans to hire 4,800 more employees, further strengthening Hyderabad’s role in technology and artificial intelligence (AI) development.
To boost AI education, Microsoft is partnering with the Telangana government to train 1.2 lakh people across the state. As part of the ADVANTA(I)GE TELANGANA initiative, AI education will be introduced in 500 government schools, benefiting 50,000 students.
Additionally, Microsoft will launch AI upskilling programs, including:
– AI-Industry Pro – Training 20,000 professionals in AI applications.
– AI-Govern – Training 50,000 government officials in digital tools, Generative AI, and cybersecurity.
A key part of this initiative is the creation of an AI Center of Excellence (AICoE). This center will develop cloud-based AI infrastructure and serve as a hub for AI research, case studies, and best practices.
Microsoft also announced a ₹15,000 crore investment to expand hyperscale AI data centers in Telangana. This will help Hyderabad become a major data hub for Microsoft’s global AI and cloud operations.
Rajiv Kumar, President of Microsoft India, emphasized the company’s focus on AI innovation. He said the new Hyderabad campus at the Microsoft India Development Center (IDC) will help teams create next-generation AI solutions.
To formalize these initiatives, Microsoft and the Telangana government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement follows discussions between CM Revanth Reddy and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in January 2025, where they pledged to modernize government IT systems, promote AI adoption, and strengthen cloud infrastructure.
