Mumbai Indian’s (MI) batter Nehal Wadhera has said that he will score more runs against Matheesha Pathirana, the Sri Lankan pacer, in their next encounter at IPL 2023. Pathirana gave away only 15 runs in his four overs and picked up three wickets in the match against CSK. He also did not concede any boundaries. Wadhera made his first fifty in the IPL, scoring 64 runs before Pathirana dismissed him with a fiery yorker in the 18th over.
Wadhera and Suryakumar Yadav stabilized Mumbai’s innings after losing their top three batters in power-play. They stitched a 55-run partnership, and when Yadav fell in the 11th over, Wadhera took charge. He then established a 50-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs to take the total to 139/8.
Wadhera said that it was his first time facing Pathirana, who has a slinging action. He added that he would have a better plan in place to score against him in their next encounter. Wadhera enjoyed batting under pressure but said that it was not an easy wicket to bat on. MI lost the match to CSK by chasing down the target of 139/8 in 17.4 overs, and Wadhera believes that they were about 15-20 runs short as they had lost early wickets.
