Metro Commuters Protest Parking Fees with Sit-In Demonstration

Hyderabad: On Wednesday, regular Metro commuters gathered at Nagole Metro Station to protest against the introduction of parking fees. They are demanding that these charges be removed.

The issue arose when L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited decided to implement parking fees at both Nagole and Miyapur Metro Stations. A sign was put up at the metro stations informing passengers about the new fees. This sudden change upset many commuters and led to arguments with parking attendants and metro staff.

The new parking fees were introduced without any prior notice. The charges range from Rs 10 for two hours of bike parking to Rs 120 for up to 12 hours of car parking. This decision has frustrated many regular commuters, particularly those in a hurry to catch the metro for work.

One daily commuter expressed their frustration, stating, “Without any notice, metro officials have planned to introduce parking fees at Metro stations. This is unfair. We’ve been using this free parking for years, and also car parking cost is more than the ticket fare.”

Another passenger questioned the rationale behind these charges, saying, “What is the reason for charging parking fees on government land? It will be better if metro officials withdraw the plan.”
