Meeting of Biden and PM Modi on the Margins of G7 Summit in Japan

US President Joe Biden will attend the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan. The White House announced that he will also have the opportunity to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the sidelines of the summit. John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House, stated that since taking office, revitalizing alliances and partnerships has been one of Biden’s top priorities.

Kirby also mentioned that the G7 has stood in solidarity with Ukraine following Russia’s invasion. The unity with Ukraine is now stronger than it was last year, and there will be concrete action to isolate Russia and weaken its ability to wage war. The G7 leaders will also demonstrate a common approach to the challenges posed by the People’s Republic of China.

In addition, the G7 will rally around the need for bold action to address the climate crisis and create good jobs. Kirby said they will present an affirmative agenda to take further action to support developing countries around the world. The President will also have an opportunity to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida on the margins and discuss ways to strengthen mutual security, economic, and multilateral cooperation.
