Karimnagar: Political Tensions Rise Over No-Confidence Motion Against Mayor Sunil Rao
The political scene in Karimnagar Municipal Corporation is heating up as BRS leaders prepare to move a no-confidence motion against Mayor Yadagiri Sunil Rao. Responding to this, Sunil Rao stated that he is ready for any investigation into the works he has undertaken over the past five years as mayor.
Sunil Rao, who recently joined the BJP under the leadership of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, explained his decision. He said he was inspired by the way Bandi Sanjay brought funds for the city’s development and emphasized his commitment to continuing the progress of Karimnagar under BJP leadership.
The mayor accused BRS leaders of resorting to “cheap politics” since his switch to BJP. He questioned why his decision had caused such concern among the BRS leaders and alleged that they were spreading baseless allegations against him.
Rao emphasized that during his tenure, he worked for the city’s development without bias, treating corporators from all parties equally. He accused the BRS of trying to gather corporators to support the no-confidence motion against him.
To counter the allegations, Sunil Rao said he welcomes a thorough investigation by the District Collector, who has been appointed as a Special Officer. He urged for an impartial review of all development works carried out under programs such as Smart City, CM Assurance, Pattana Pragathi, and those funded by general grants and various schemes.
The mayor also raised concerns about unethical practices in the development of the Maneru Riverfront project. He called for transparency and accountability in all municipal works.
Sunil Rao claimed that many corporators are willing to join the BJP, further intensifying political tensions. He accused BRS leaders of spreading false narratives on social media, but assured that BJP supporters are equally prepared to counter these claims online. He vowed to ensure that the BRS would not win a single seat in the upcoming municipal elections.
