Hyderabad Celebrates 76th Republic Day at GHMC Headquarters

The 76th Republic Day celebrations were marked by a flag-hoisting ceremony at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) headquarters. Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, Deputy Mayor Srilatha Shobhan Reddy, and GHMC Commissioner K Ilambarthi participated in the event and unfurled the national flag.

During her address, Mayor Vijayalakshmi emphasized the importance of Republic Day. She highlighted that January 26, 1950, marks the day when the Indian Constitution, envisioned by Dr. BR Ambedkar, came into effect. She described the Constitution as a symbol of equality, freedom, and brotherhood. The Mayor paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar and his team, acknowledging their role in giving the country its foundational document.

The Mayor also spoke about the State government’s commitment to inclusive development. She mentioned that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the government is working to ensure welfare and development for all sections of society. Special attention is being given to the growth of Greater Hyderabad, with Rs 3,065 crore allocated to GHMC in the first State budget. Vijayalakshmi added that the government is focused on transforming Hyderabad into a globally competitive city by addressing urban challenges and improving public transport and infrastructure.

GHMC Commissioner Ilambarthi provided an overview of the developmental activities undertaken in Hyderabad. These initiatives include the construction of water-holding structures, improvements to roads and stormwater drains, junction upgrades, and urban community development projects. He also highlighted efforts in urban biodiversity, lakes restoration, GIS-based surveys, TG-BPASS, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, sports facilities, and housing projects like Indiramma houses.

The celebrations concluded with a renewed commitment to making Hyderabad a more developed and inclusive city for its residents.
