Hyderabad: A government employee, who met a woman on the Matrimony website and believed that she was sending him gifts from London, deposited Rs 26.95 lakhs as token money. The woman, introduced as Anitha Joseph through Bharat Matrimony, got in touch with the government employee from Nagole, Jaiyapurikalani. She contacted him on WhatsApp using an unknown number and introduced herself as Anitha Joseph. She told him that she was working as a doctor in the UK. They had been chatting for some time. In the meantime, the couple, who found each other through this network, told him that they were going to send him gifts from London.
The next day, officials from the customs department at Delhi Airport called to inform him that there were gold idols, currencies, and other jewelry in a parcel that arrived with his name. They informed him that customs clearance was required for this parcel and asked him to pay the necessary charges. Trusting them, the affected person deposited money in the mentioned account. After that, they collected Rs 26,95,765 in installments citing various reasons. Realizing that he was being deceived, the victim lodged a complaint with the Rachakonda Cyber Crime Police. A case was registered and an investigation is underway.
