Massive Protest Staged by Power Staff in Hyderabad to Showcase Their Strength

On Friday, employees of the State power utilities in Hyderabad staged a massive protest at the head office, VidyuthSoudha. The protest was organized by the Telangana State Power Employees Joint Action Committee (TSPEJAC) and saw hundreds of employees from various parts of the state participate in the demonstration. The employees, who work for TS TRANSCO, GENCO, TSSPDCL, and TSNPDCL, presented 29 demands to the government, including the establishment of a pay revision commission and the conversion of the Employee Provident Fund to General Provident Fund for employees appointed between 1999 to 2004. Additionally, they called for action on artisans’ issues and the revision of pay and allowances for TS Power Utilities employees, which have been due since April 1, 2022.

According to Ratnakar Rao, the JAC Convenor, the TSPEJAC has been requesting the management to complete the pay scale and allowance revision process promptly. However, after serving a strike notice on the management a month ago, there was no response from either the management or the government. As a result, holding demonstrations was the only option left for the workforce to press for their demands.
