Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that the government has taken steps to increase organ donations in the country. He made this announcement while speaking at the 13th Indian Organ Donation Day ceremony in New Delhi.
The ceremony was held to honor donor families who made the decision to donate organs of their loved ones. It also aimed to raise awareness about deceased organ donation and recognize the efforts of medical professionals in the field of organ donation and transplantation.
Mandaviya emphasized the importance of giving life to another person and expressed gratitude towards all those involved in this noble cause. He highlighted that the number of organ donors has significantly increased from 5,000 in 2013 to over 15,000 annually.
The minister mentioned some key reforms that have been implemented, such as extending the leave duration for organ donors from 30 days to 60 days and removing the age limitation of 65 years. He assured that the government is dedicated to introducing more policies and reforms to promote organ donation.
Mandaviya not only praised the donor families for their contribution in saving lives but also encouraged others to raise awareness about organ donation. During the ceremony, he launched the eCARe portal of the International Health division, which aims to streamline and expedite the process of transporting human remains to India from different countries. Additionally, he unveiled an e-newsletter of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO).
