On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of Congress, criticized the BJP-led central government for their “politics of hatred” that has caused more than 100 deaths and burned Manipur for over 40 days. He believes that an all-party delegation should be sent to the state to stop the cycle of bloodshed and bring peace. He urged for a “Mohabbat ki Dukaan” or a shop of love in each Manipuri person’s heart.
Priyanka Gandhi, the general secretary of Congress, also expressed her concern about the distressing situation in Manipur. She stated that the Central government needs to take immediate measures to ensure the safety of the people and restore peace.
The state has been on fire since May 3, and thousands of people have been displaced. Over 349 relief camps have been established, and over 100 people have died. On Wednesday, Nemcha Kipgen’s official apartment in the Lamphel neighbourhood of Imphal West district was set on fire by assailants. Kipgen, the state’s only female minister, wasn’t home when the attack happened.
Late on Tuesday night, suspected militants attacked the Khamelock village in the Imphal East district, resulting in 11 deaths and 23 injuries. Authorities fear that there may be further casualties as some of the injured are reportedly in serious condition.
