Malayalam actor Vinayakan was taken into custody by Hyderabad police on Saturday after an incident at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The altercation happened around 5:30 pm while Vinayakan was on a layover during his trip from Kochi to Goa. He allegedly caused a disturbance in the domestic transfer area of the airport.
Reports suggest that Vinayakan was under the influence of alcohol and created a scene, which led to the involvement of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel. A scuffle reportedly broke out between the actor and the CISF officials, resulting in Vinayakan being detained. He was first held by CISF officers and later handed over to the airport police.
Even after being taken to the police station, Vinayakan allegedly continued to cause a disturbance. The police are now planning to file a First Information Report (FIR) against him, and a medical examination will be conducted. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from the airport to gather more evidence.
In response to the incident, Vinayakan told the media that he was physically assaulted by the CISF officials. He stated that he did not know why he was taken into custody and claimed that the CCTV footage would reveal the truth.
This is not the first time Vinayakan has been involved in controversies. In October 2023, he was arrested for causing a disturbance at the Ernakulam Town police station, reportedly while intoxicated. He also faced criticism last year for remarks made during the death of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and for inappropriate comments related to the #MeToo movement.
The police investigation into the current incident is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge soon.
